Once you have unlocked your Mac, you can restart it normally and log in with the new password you have just created. Your Mac will now be unlocked without a password. Enter a new password twice and then click “Save”. Once you have selected the user account, you will be prompted to enter a new password. From here, you can select the hard drive that contains your Mac’s operating system and then select the user account you want to reset. This will open the Reset Password utility. In the Terminal window, type the following command: resetpassword. Depending on the version of macOS you are running, you may need to select the “Utilities” menu and then “Terminal”. From here, you can select the option to unlock your Mac without a password. Once you are in Recovery Mode, you will be presented with a macOS Utilities window.
